Presented by Latino Princetonians, PACTO and HISPA
PRINCETON – Javier Lizarzaburu Araujo, an Ecuadorian inventor and entrepreneur who has created a new concept of the game of chess, will speak and offer a hands-on presentation on Friday, Feb. 12, 6 - 8 p.m. The event is part of a series to promote Latino talent in Research, Development and Innovation.
The event is being presented by Latino Princetonians (Princeton University Employee Resource Group), led by Robert Martinez, Manager of Diversity and Inclusion, HISPA, a national non-profit organization with the mission to reduce dropout rates by mobilizing Latino professionals to serve as active role models, and PACTO (Princeton Alliance for Community and Trade Organizations), a civic group of Latino professionals in Mercer County.
According to www.chessvariants.com: “XYMYX was created in Ecuador, its main idea is simultaneity, that is, players make their moves at the same time. In XYMYX, both players make their moves simultaneously and because of this whoever plays with the white pieces has no advantage, colors practically don't exist. Because of all the knowledge involved in chess, whoever has more experience will have the advantage, but someone who has learned to play XYMYX can easily beat an expert chess player because everything is new.”
Lizarzaburu will present and show XYMYX and its use as part of a new educational platform offered to school districts. He will also participate in the Toy Fair in New York City.
The event is open to the public and free of charge. For security purposes, the event will be limited to RSVPs submitted in advance. Directions and additional details will be provided to those who RSVP to info@hispa.org.
