Role Model Program

Homeland Security Director, Richard Canas, and other HISPA Role Models at the New Brunswick Middle School Career Day

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” Homeland Security Director, Richard Canas shared this quote from Mahatma Gandhi with over 250 8th grade students in an inspirational presentation during our HISPA Role Model Program at New Brunswick Middle School in New Brunswick last Friday, May 29.

Director Canas shared his cultural background sharing with the students that he came to the US from El Salvador with his parents that spoke no English at home and shared some of the challenges he had to overcome to achieve his goals. This is the second time Director Canas visits a school in NJ as part of the HISPA effort to enable Hispanic professionals to SHARE their stories to INSPIRE students to TRANSFORM their future by choosing education as a priority.

Other HISPA Role Models were at the NBMS participating at the school’s career day included: Julissa Germosen, Microsoft, Courtney Pinnock, AT&T, Juan Chavez, J&J, Tim Williams, Elizabethtown Gas, Juan Alvarado, Microsoft. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR GREAT DEDICATION TO OUR COMMUNITIES!
