Elizabeth, New Jersey – May 06, 2011 – United Way of Greater Union County (UWGUC) today announced that the UWGUC Hispanic Leadership Advisory Council (HLAC) is teaming up with Hispanics Inspiring Students’ Performance and Achievement (HISPA), the Merck Hispanos Organization (MHO) and Kean University to create a unique networking opportunity for the Hispanic Community.
“Latino Innovators: Leadership ABC” showcases leaders from academia, business and the community. Scheduled for May 19th, from 4:30 – 8:00 PM, at Kean University’s STEM Building Auditorium, this networking event focuses on connecting the Hispanic community to new and exciting career opportunities within the pharmaceutical industry as well as providing important information regarding volunteerism, civic engagement and higher education.
“The mission of the HLAC is to ensure that the Hispanic community has full access to United Way’s network of programs and services as well as to work with community leaders and volunteers to raise awareness about critical health and human service needs,” said Martha L. Bahamón, Chair of HLAC and a member of UWGUC’s Board of Trustees. “We invite all interested Latino community leaders and individuals to volunteer and participate in this unique partnership with the United Way, HISPA, MHO and Kean so that we can work together to improve the future of the Latino community, in particular the education of Latino youth”

From 4:30 – 5:30 PM, Kean students and alumni are invited to a special workshop focusing on careers in the pharmaceutical field. From 5:30 – 8:00 PM, all are invited to a reception and panel discussion hosted by Rod Colón, HISPA Role Model and author of Win the Race for 21st Century Jobs, featuring:
