This past September 23rd, the NJ chapter held its 2nd Annual Fostering Hispanic Leadership Employee Resource Summit. In attendance was Steve Ramos, NSHMBA Interim CEO who visited NJ and met with sponsors.

RVCC SETS EVENTS TO CELEBRATE HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
The public is invited to join Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month with a host of activities, including dance and musical performances, and samplings of ethnic cuisine. All events will be held at the College’s North Branch Campus.

On Tuesday, June 9 the Summit Area Y hosted its 2nd annual Community Achievement Dinner-celebrating the magic of community. Honored were Leslie Zimring, Supervisor of World Languages/ESL/Bilingual Programs, Summit Public Schools, and Dr. Ivonne Diaz-Claisse, a volunteer mentor with HISPA, a national organization providing support and guidance for Latino students.
June 12, Princeton University Campus – One hundred and ten 8th graders from Red Bank Middle School, Paterson School #5, New Brunswick Middle School and the William C. McGinnis School (Perth Amboy) were hosted by professionals from Princeton University, AT&T, Merck, NSHMBA, PACTO, Elizabethtown Gas, Schering-Plough, CHUBB, Argent Associates, Wakefern/Shoprite, for a day of learning about the importance of high school and the many careers they can choose to pursue.

The Three Kings (the Three Wise Men) Banquet coincides with the traditional gift-giving period of the Nativity in Spanish-speaking countries. HISPA selected this theme to thank those whose gifts of support and volunteerism assure the success of its mission-driven programs.
HISPA hosted the 2009 Three Kings Banquet in the Seabra’s Armory this past Saturday. Guests included AT&T’s HACEMOS, MERCK’s MHO, CHUBB’s CHLEN, NSHMBA NJ, Microsoft HOLA, USHAA and the Latino Leadership Alliance of NJ. Their presence reinforced the theme of the night: “Celebrating the Impact of our Collaboration”. HISPA’s Role Model Bureau Reaches More Than 1,000 NJ Students
Hispanic mentors will be in Red Bank, Passaic and Summit this week
NEW JERSEY – Since mid-October, HISPA’s Role Model Bureau has been quite busy providing support to educational programs across New Jersey. Mentors have shared their life stories – with an emphasis on educational achievements and professional accomplishments – during visits with more than 1,000 students in New Brunswick, Paterson, West New York and Summit.

NEW JERSEY – HISPA (Hispanics Inspiring Students’ Performance and Achievement), a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing positive Hispanic role models for young students, is holding a launch event to spotlight the group’s national mission and its New Jersey program. The event will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 6 p.m. at AT&T, One AT&T Way, Bedminster, New Jersey.
