The Summit Area YMCA Celebrates Community Partners

By Summit Area YMCA

On Tuesday, June 9 the Summit Area Y hosted its 2nd annual Community Achievement Dinner-celebrating the magic of community. Honored were Leslie Zimring, Supervisor of World Languages/ESL/Bilingual Programs, Summit Public Schools, and Dr. Ivonne Diaz-Claisse, a volunteer mentor with HISPA, a national organization providing support and guidance for Latino students.

This joint collaboration led to monthly discussion programs from October through May for Latino students at Summit High School. Adult Latino role models spoke to the students about their career and life experiences, while encouraging students to set life and career goals for themselves.
