Global Senior IT Audit Manager at Office Depot, Rene Herrera is responsible for audit projects across the globe.  Prior, Rene worked for Verizon for 16 years in International Operations and Internal Audit.  He led audit projects in Verizon International companies in Latin America, Europe and Asia.  In 2006, he earned the highest distinction of the Verizon International Excellence Award, the President‘s Award, for the results achieved by the Revenue Assurance program he led in Verizon Puerto Rico.
Throughout his career, Rene has been committed to supporting the Hispanic community and Hispanic Enterprise Resource groups.  He was elected as the Mid-Atlantic Chapter president of the Verizon Hispanic Support Organization (HSO) and later served as the Verizon HSO National president.  Under his leadership, Verizon HSO implemented multiple initiatives to promote professional development and community outreach, including HSO Career Day to promote underrepresented students’—especially Hispanics—interest in engineering and technology fields with an overview and understanding of careers in technology. He received the 2012 ASPIRA Hispanic Circle of Achievers award in recognition of his professional contributions and accomplishments as well as his commitment and service to the Latino and Hispanic community.
Commitment to family and community have been always very important to Rene. He has volunteered to work with children and teenagers at the Chacao Homeless Children Foundation in Caracas Venezuela, NY Junior Achievement and HISPA. Rene Herrera has been a HISPA volunteer since 2008.  He was acknowledged as the HISPA Role Model of the Year for his consistent participation as a role model in multiple schools across New Jersey in both 2010 and 2013.  Rene serves on HISPA’s Board of Directors and has championed the organization’s initial efforts in Florida.
Herrera has a degree in computer engineering from Simón Bolívar University in Caracas, Venezuela.  He was a World Bank scholarship recipient, allowing him to earn his MBA from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.  He also was the recipient of the Enterprise Development Scholarship at Case Western’s Weatherhead School of Management.  He completed his last semester of his MBA at the BI Norwegian School of Management.
