Yvonne Shepard started her successful career at AT&T in Bell Laboratories where she developed software for computer Operating Systems and Data Networks. She then moved to ATT Headquarters where she participated and led projects with increasing responsibilities in the areas of Marketing, Operations, and Strategy and Business Planning.
In 1992 she was appointed President and COO of ATT of Puerto Rico leading the turn-around of AT&T of Puerto Rico, a $240M, 400 employee subsidiary of AT&T, to the leadership position in its industry. As its Chief Operating Officer, she directed its Sales, Operations, Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, Public Relations and Public Affairs.
In 1995 she was appointed Marketing Vice-President for Global Markets where she built and led a $2B organization to market growth and profitability.
After retiring from ATT in 1999, she founded YMS & Associates, specializing in improving the consumer and small business marketing, sales, customer service, and retention efforts of Latin American and US Corporations. Primary clients include DIRECTV of Latin America, a provider of satellite television services in 27 countries and ADVANTA Corporation, a leading provider of credit cards to small businesses.
In 2002 she founded NineWomen, a group of former executives who opted for early retirement. They have written an award winning book – “Beyond The Corner Office”, where through personal essays they reflect on their careers, breaking through “the glass ceiling”, and life after early retirement.
In 2005 she founded an ESL program that serves the recent immigrant community in the Flemington area. The program provides instructions in three levels of proficiency at St. Magdalen’s Catholic Church.
In 2009 she was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of HISPA (Hispanics Inspiring Students for Performance and Achievement) an organization committed to reduce the drop out rate of Latino students through its Role Model program. The HISPA Role Model program partners with Middle schools that have over 50 % Latino students and brings successful Latino professionals to share their experiences with the students at least 6 times a year. The primary objective is to inspire students to choose education as a way to fulfill their dreams. The organization has grown to over 500 Role models, has touched over 3000 students and is poised to expand to New York, Texas, and Florida.
Ms. Shepard has a B.A. in Mathematics from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, an M.S in Computer Science from Northwestern University, and an M.S. in Business from Pace University. She has completed post-graduate work at INSEAD in Geneva, Switzerland and Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
She has been a Director of the Caribbean Life Assurance Company, the Caribbean American Property Insurance Company, the AT&T Foundation Board of Trustees, the Independent Sector, HISPA, and Vice President, Board of Directors of New Jersey Special Olympics.
She is married to Ronald Zanders and they reside in Flemington, NJ.
